"Goodnight," the boy said to the muted light bulb.
The setting sun, his spotlight, glowed away the Sandman's lullaby
as dusk seeped through the window's tin foil holes
along with sunburnt Summer air.  In the sun's absence,
the boy performed headstands to his teddy bear audience
to shine away the Sandman.  All night
the boy waited
for the sun.

A car horn jolts the boy,
now a man,
as a clock signals 4:27 AM.
His awareness grows
with the day's dawn.
The cracked window,
or the Sandman's open door,
leaks crisp Autumn breezes and houseflies,
but no sand in the man's eyes.  He lies here,
under his bed sheet chaos, waiting for the sun.
Hello everyone! Instead of uploading another photograph from my cellphone, here is a narrative poem that I wrote for my Writing 100 class.

The idea for the narrative poem was to take a memory from the earliest reaches of my childhood, find a "central truth" within it, and put it into poem form using key imagery of the story and the best use of diction possible. This poem was inspired by the fact that, when I was four years old, I would refuse to go to sleep (who wouldn't if it was 7:00 pm and the sun was still up?). Hopefully I am clear with what the "central truth" is within the poem, so I won't spoil it here.

This was the first of two final products in a poetry portfolio I originally submitted on Nov. 1, 2012 for my writing class.
